GHOST FLOWERS

Ghost Flowers

Wilderness before us-
afterwards nostalgia
Tribes inhabit only invisible auras
like bison trails, wolf packs
indigenous dreaming trails
end in tears.

These deer are white and wire-
fences and guns keep out the wilde ones
a season declared for the hunting of shadows
to keep us in the dark

Somewhere, stories gather
in circles, round fires-to share
remnants and vestiges of pre-us

After us-others will move in
to our houses, on our land
They will have no knowledge of us
They will mythologize
an imaginary wilderness
in which we have no part

Perhaps it is time to hear wolf and bison
before we forget/are forgotten
before the hunting season is declared
upon humans.
